She then devoted herself to a new career as a war
correspondent working as a staff-writer, freelance reporter or Head
of Press Service in such printed media outlets as “Ordu”
(Army), “Adalet” (Justice), “Azerbaijan Isiglari”
(Lights of Azerbaijan) and “Hunar” during 1991-1997.
From Fizuli to Beylagan, Jabrail to Qubadli, and finally
to Hojali just a week before its tragedy, Beniz followed the Army
Forces into some of the most hostile areas to cover news and events
from conflict zones. She made her voice numerously heard on radio
and TV channels serving as a live bridge between the soldiers and
their families. Beniz was an active member of several Womens’
organizations including the “Society of Soldiers’ Mothers”
in Azerbaijan.
She lives in Southern California since 1997 when she
first entered the US with the invitation and job offer from American
– Azerbaijani Friendship Society. In 2006 she published her
first book, “Roads of War are Paved through My Heart”
which is based on her field journals gathered during the war events.
The book was awarded the second place at the Best
Book on Karabagh, Written by Azerbaijanis Living Abroad contest,
held by the Berlin-based Literature Institute named after Nizami
Ganjavi. The author was nominated as an Ambassador of Piece and
awarded an honorable diploma of the Japan-based Universal Peace
Federation and was also recognized with “Golden Pen”
award initiated by the Union of Journalists of Azerbaijan Republic.
